Ok i think everyone and there brother knows i am a big cadenza freak here, so I’ve been waiting for Luciano’s new album to drop and damn was i not disappointed. The depth that Tribute to the Sun puts forth is astounding and something that not only satisfies ones need to dance but ones emotional needs as well. Luciano has a way of mystifying the listener. Whether taking us to a pure child like place of Los Ninos de Fuera or putting us a in mesmerizing Latin trance of Pierre for Anni, he has a way of completely submerging the us in places we would rather be. Now whether those places exists or not is really in Luciano’s mind. His deep compelling rhythms and minimal train rides are still enthralling. Now the minimal purists will have something to say about whether this is his most forward thinking work, but you know what I have to say about them. Luciano has me riveted and I will be rockin Tribute for some time to come. To stream the whole album for yourself at Tribute to the Sun.

Check it Phoenix have a remix album coming out check out Animal Collective’s remix of Love Like Sunset via Pitchfork. Also the Bodytonic folks are getting houseE with a mix by Planet E’s Reade Truth. If we are talking about Planet E I guess we can talk about Santiago Salazar and this Los Hermanos member’s new mix over at Little White Ear Buds. And let’s wind it up with a Free EP from Noodles point man Si Begg via sound cloud. And last but not last be on the lookout for a new episode of Ego Killer TV featuring Orb, Lusine, Ada and more!

Review: This Is Sander Kleinenberg 2

Justifying a compilation like this at such a crucial time in retail is difficult. When it involves a likable DJ like Sander, it's even more so. This mix, at face value, is flawless. Like KMFDM says, "It's done by machines, 'cause they don't make mistakes." Software forces DJs to become better selectors, but makes their mixing style almost irrelevant - like, it's perfect, OK?

So why did this release come out on 2xCD today, when download makes the only sense? Knowing that few titles ever make it to retail from Ultra nowadays you'd think they would bait us with that unfinished Kleinenberg artist album. In the days of seminal Sander tracks like 'Sacred' and 'Penso Positivo', he was thought of as an artist first, a DJ second. Five 'This Is...' comps later and I'm comped out on Kleinenberg. I believe hardly any new blood will be converted on the retail level with this comp. I'm saying this as a guy who has gone out and bought five Ultra CDs in the last year. But about the tracks...

Sascha Funke kicks things off with a spacious intro called 'Summer Rain' but the tempo doesn't really cook until the future-retro Rainer Weichhold remix of 'Push Push' by Rockers Hi-Fi. Brilliant placement on that. Steadily things keep bubbling through Glenn Morrison & Bruce Aisher's 'Graffiti', a dirty progger that comes right when its needed. However, things fizzle out just in time to end Disc One. Robert Babicz' 'Tblisi', which really belonged towards the beginning, just took all the energy out at the wrong time.

Disc Two starts off with the new Sander Kleinenberg track 'This Is Our Night' which borrows from Wired's 'To The Beat of The Drum' - an early New York house track from '86. It's more of a 'call to arms' party track than anything that'll add artistic merit to Sander's oeuvre. The rest of this comp is chunky, gritty, commercial and techy. There are no standouts. It lacked a little depth, scope and was simply average.

I am calling for a moratorium on Sander Kleinenberg DJ comps for now. The fans need a singles retrospective and an artist album. This compilation is like buying a vowel on Wheel of Fortune: you're progressing, but at a price. And you already knew what letter it was before Vanna tapped the screen. 5/10 - Justin Shurman

Got some techno mixes for you, you and you. First off germany’s finest here with michael mayer of kompakt, got an early days mix via pitchfork. For some nyc/florida action dj three’s san fran set via moogme is quite the find. I also need to show some love for urbax jax for dropping us in the 6 new jax blogs list!

On the live front, The Hacienda House party rocked it much love to Justin Shurman, Ted Lane, Eowyn and everyone who showed up and brought down the walls at 331. We look to October for our next venture in sonic space so stay tuned.

Ego Killer Invasion

Ego Killer has had a busy August of far, with The Hacienda House Party coming up on August 15th it is going to be madness and yes we have real flyers!!! On the Ego Killer TV front a new show airs on Comcast CH 29 Saturdays at 830p with Audion’s Full of Blinding Light, Orbital’s Halcyon and Tom Middleton’s Kalahari with a little Animal Collective thrown in to boot. We’ve been hitting the beach on Sundaze at the Atlantic, Ted Lane is rockin this Sunday click here to get on his guest list! Also there is some bleep madness at TSI on August 31th with Minusbaby, Lissajou and otras. Be sure to kick it Saturday night it’s also Eowyn big 3-0, it will be a ravingly good time!

Wrap it up DEMF 2009

Well its hard to believe that only days ago i was knee deep in some of the most amazing electronic dance music that the world has to give. Detroit rolled out the red carpet in everyway. From Detroit’s up and comers, Kyle Hall and Omar S to veterans Kevin Saunderson and Carl Craig, from festival to afterhours Detroit was the place to get your electronic groove on. Ghostly’s Ten Year spectacular and Jeff Mills alien mixology had us feeling right every night we were there. When Loco Dice and Luciano closed out Sunday night I thought I died and went to Ibizia. We even found time to get schooled at the Motown Museum. We were a little sad to hear that Submerge Records and The Techno Museum being forced out of there digs but we hope the motor city will support these cornerstones of techno and keep the vibe alive, and with Carl Craig heading up the festival direction next year, it should give us another reason to spend another Memorial Day Weekend in Detroit!

So we managed to hit the Ghostly 10 Year Anniversary and what a jam. Tycho really had us entranced with beautiful blissed out beat laden melodies. Then we were truly honored with live performance by Telefon Tel Aviv. This amazing performance moved something inside of everyone there. With the absence of partner Charlie Cooper this it really struck a chord in all of us but I am totally thankful that Joshua Eustis was able to perform for us and close out the night of my favorite label.

Detroit After Parties

Ok like I said there are enough after parties in Detroit that you can shake your stick and still get funky. My personal favorite is getting down with The Wizard aka Jeff Mills at Homecoming Saturday night plus Underground Resistance and Spectral will both be showing out. If hitting the boat is your thing then you are not gonna want to miss the official DEMF I’m on a boat after party with Luciano vs Loco Dice, Carl Craig, Dixon wow. Friday night were kickin it at Ghostly’s Ten Year Anniversary Party, with live performances by Telefon Tel Aviv, Michna, Deastro, we are definitely looking forward. Then of course the legendary Memorial Day Need I say More IV party at the old miami is always chock full of tasty surprises and worth the 6am wake up call! If you haven’t got your demf ticket get em fast there $50 for the weekend, $60 at the gate!

Loco Dice vs Luciano - Ok I must confess sadly i missed these nouveau techno mavens in Miami and i regret it everyday, don't make the same mistakes I did, this will be monumentally deep techno action.

Last Chance for romance

Ok folks well it was a crazed last day in Miami. We got a chance to meet up with Stryke and took us out for some Argetinian food and we were serenaded by everybody in the restaurant. We also got to check out his studio and he has some crazy mixes coming out for Danny Howell's soon, so hopefully you'll catch some on Ego Killer TV. Then I headed up to Sunday School to get my wristband and the place was decked to the tee's couches outside and school buses parked but alas it was just picking up and I new I would have to leave in the morning, so I ran into the fifibear photogs and we headed down to the fools good party and caught treasure fingers and steve aoki banging it out to sweaty masses. After that Tina and Arhlene wanted me to go to the Carry On event, but alas sunday was a day of travel and as much as i wanted to go till the break of dawn, driving with 0 sleep is not a good thing. However we did stop at an amazing record store called radioactive records and spent the remainder of the months grocery $ on records cause that is how we roll here at jaxlore, food or vinyl you know the answer. this years wmc was no less spectacular then the last and the only the only reason i am not sad is I know detroit is right around the corner!

Friday Night Fever

ok so after a much needed disco nap, we tried to go see Utada, a Japenese popstar but the line was around the block for her album release party and we were hungry, so down to The Guru for another fantastic Indian cuisine experience. Then back to the condo and off to AM Only at the Karu and Y. We got there and it was jumpin, the sound in that club and the lights and everything else was out of this world. First Donald Glaude & Richard Vission were pumping in the NY house style and Donald's shouts gotta an already crazed crowd jumping, then Joachim Garraud & Robbie Rivera were rockin and Joachim whipped out the keytar and started playing the Robin S Show me love riff and damn if where just weren't talking about that a few hours before. Really the party there was just getting started and for the real down and dirty (Josh Wink and Steve Bug) you had to be there @ 6am). We wanted to stay but we had go see Audion at the Spectral Losing It party and we were not disappointed. We got there about 3:30a after several wrong turns downtown and quite the unscenic tour. Once inside all was right with the universe when Audion started throwing down. He played a whole set of unreleased tunes, and I tell you the man we know as Matthew Dear has not skipped a beat, he live Audion persona killed it and when 5am came we knew techno was alive and well and living in the front bedroom.

Worth it!

Ok folks so it was worth the wait. We saw Patrice Baumel and Lee Curtis and they rocked it. The rooftop was amazing there was a clear view of miami beach and pumping sounds it was quite the sunset. Then we headed downtown the Resolute party was going off Guy Gerber really rocked it live stylee, while Derek Plaslaiko tore it up in the other room, the we hoofed down the Karu & Y and watching the MINUS magic happened my man Troy Pierce was in full swing, but we where on fumes so we decided to head back, but not before seeing Sam from Ghostly, who told us there will be some new audion material tomorrow night! So Spectral Losing it and the AM Only party, we've got a full night ahead of us tomorrow!

Crucial decision

First off Stryke rocked it! It was a small intimate venue called love hate and it had a nice vibe. We made it to the la Sandwicherie and had an insane sub on that wonderful french bread. Today we got up had a smoothie and have mosied on down to Lincoln road and are waiting in line for the get physical rooftop party and its been about at least an hour so we've been groovin around Lincoln so we hope will make it in in a bit if not we might head on down to the Chelsea for some free techno. Decisions decisions.
